“Little Bandit”

This cedar waxwing was made by mixing charcoal with pastels. Additionally, the waxwing is a bit of a strange bird, with soft-looking feathers that have an appearance more similar to fur than the feathers of most other birds. Nevertheless, I’m very happy with how it came out!

I saw this eagle during a trip to the Detroit Zoo near the end of winter. The birds had injured wings, and were only in the zoo in the first place because they’d been injured in the wild and we no longer able to fly. Still, they’re large, striking birds, and very impressive to behold up close.
